Outstanda Pulse Training Manual
Section 4 : Micro-Surveys
The core aspect of what makes Outstanda Pulse different is the micro-survey feature that allows schools to check in with students via text and get responses for a few questions as often as once per day or as little as a couple of times per month. These surveys take less than 30 seconds to complete and do not interrupt someone’s day.
You can schedule a one-time or recurring survey by selecting Survey, New Survey in the left menu. Step one is to choose your audience, any tags, the survey, and whether it is a one-time survey or recurring. You can preview the questions in the survey with the preview button.
If recurring, you can choose to repeat one day of weeks, in the 1st through 4th weeks of the month and at any time. So you could run a survey weekly, or twice a month, for example.
If it is a one time survey, you will select the date and time on the following screen. You cannot send it at once, but you can schedule it for the next quarter-hour.
To keep things simple, delete the survey under Survey -> Scheduled and add it again for the new dates, times, and tags you with.
Priority of Micro-Surveys
It is possible you will have a survey and need to add another survey to go out on the same day that takes priority. Each mobile number in your account can only get one survey per day, and by using priority you can change which survey runs first, which second, etc. Because of tags, this can help you build a fairly complex, targeted schedule of surveys.
Holiday Block Days
Because you can set your surveys to be automated, Outstanda Pulse allows for holiday blocking. Under the settings (upper right) menu, select Set Holidays and choose those areas you would like to block. You may select one day, or a start day and end day to block off more than one day. For example, a school system might want to block off two weeks during a break, and even if recurring surveys are scheduled to have a Winter break, they can block those times, and they will be skipped. Once one is set, you can see the list of holiday blocks and remove those you no longer want.
Repeating holidays are the DATE, not the holiday. So, for the US, Dec 24th to Dec. 31st can recure but the Thanksgiving date varies each year and should be set yearly based on the school calendar.
Because the surveys are scheduled at a particular time, you will want to carefully consider what time gets the best results, but also what time is not too early, since someone sick at home would also get the survey, and you would not want to wake them with a text message early in the morning.
A number of reports are available, and over time we will add new ways to explore and use your data. When inside reports, remember they are interactive and you can click on areas to explore sub-data and jump to student records. Some reports also have the option to export in CSV on the upper right-hand side of the report page.
